ICYR 2026 cosplay contest rules
The rules on this page are subject to change, if you are interested in participating, please check the cosplay section of the website often to ensure you are aware of any updates or changes.  
There will be no same-day registrations to the contest. 
 
. Any weapons must be PROP only. If you can hurt someone with it, leave it at home. NO Airsoft, etc.

Costumes do not have to be worn by the creator but if a model is used, both the creator of the costume and model must be present for both prejudging 
 
2. We only have one cosplay contest, 13+ attendees, in the years to come we hope to expand in group cosplays and youth divisions.
 
3. Originally crafted costumes only.
 (Store bought costumes are still welcome to the convention and are at cosplay meet ups. 

 
4. Immersecon  is a family friendly event. All costumes must cover “swimsuit areas”-no nudity. Body-paint costumes are not eligible to win. We adheres to the “PG-13 rule” when it comes to language and hand gestures on stage. Violation of this rule may cause you to be disqualified from the competition.

 
5. You must be a registered Immerse Conattendee in order to compete. Each member of your group must have a badge, pass, or other form of attendee membership. There is no additional fee to get into the contest.
 
6. The contest is open to characters from published works; movies, TV shows, comic books, cartoons, video games, and card games.
 
7. Costumes must be handled by the contestant or by handler(s) the contestant brings to help. Handlers are required to be registered attendees of the convention and Immerse con cannot provide on-stage assistants.
 
8.Costumes may be either based on an existing or recognizable character from the pop culture realm, including movies, TV, comic books, manga, anime, etc. or an original design with accompanying sketches/mood boards. Costumes can also include derivative designs from artists (i.e., Hannah Alexander Art, Sakizo Illustrator, etc.) so long as reference artwork is provided in the build book for the judges.

 
9. you plan to draw or otherwise “use” a prop during your presentation, note that on your cosplay contest sign-up sheet. The cosplay director will make any necessary determination of suitability and safety. 
 
9. Contestants are not allowed to throw anything off stage, nor use projectiles or use anything on stage that will leave a mess. This includes (but is not limited to) liquids, glitter, and confetti.
 
10. No pyrotechnics, fire, explosive devices, live animals, or similar special effects can be used during the competition; this includes smoke/smog machines and flash powder. Anyone who violates this rule may be disqualified from the competition and be asked to leave the convention area depending on the severity of the incursion. All prop weapons must conform to the con prop policies, including being checked.

 Conduct & Safety
Respect judges, staff, and fellow participants.
No harassment, bullying, or disruptive behavior.
Participants must follow all staff instructions during lineup and stage operations.
Anyone acting unsafely may be removed from the contest.
Photography & Media
By entering, participants acknowledge they may be photographed or recorded during the event.
Photos may be used for promotional purposes by the event organizers.
Walk‑On (contestants)
Participants walk on stage, pose, and exit.
Time limit:1-2 minutes
No dangerous stunts, jumps, or running.
Performance/Skit (contestants)
Time limit:  under 5 minutes unless ot
No fire, liquids, powders, projectiles, or messy props.
Combat choreography must be slow, controlled, and pre‑approved by staff.
Microphones may not be available; prerecorded audio is recommended.
6. Prop & Weapon Guidelines
All props must comply with convention safety rules.
No real weapons of any kind.
Bladed props must be dull and peace‑bonded.
Guns must have orange tips and cannot fire projectiles.
Oversized props must be manageable and safe to carry on stage.
7. Costume Guidelines
Costumes must be PG‑13 and family‑friendly.
No nudity, excessive gore, or offensive imagery.
Shoes are required at all times.
Costumes must allow safe movement on stage.
